SUMMER SHOW:

The summer show theme concerns my dual identity, encompassing Islam and Japan. I plan to design an immersive installation in a spatial dark room to portray both aspects and accurately delve into deeper thematic forms than my previous work. A central element would be a Persian rug measuring 160cm x 118cm. I need to examine how it works to create a more spacial experience. Here are some proposed ideas for the project:

Proposal 1 - Place a print on an A1-size wooden frame (without a mat or glass) on top of the rug. An adjacent projector would animate onto the photograph.

Proposal 2 - Hanging the rug from the ceiling as a screen (using the back side of the rug). Projection by a ceiling-mounted projector. People will be able to walk around the work.

Proposal 3 - Projecting it onto suspended prints sizing 200 × 90cm with a wooden frame. The rug is set below.

The animations will feature slight and subtle movements while expressing my arabesque patterns made with laser-cutting woodcut prints. (Print animation) To improve on my previous work, I will use more than one colour in the print animation to express my original patterns. For sound, headphones can be connected directly to the projector, or dedicated speakers can be installed in a separate space for an optimal auditory experience, ensuring no interference with other artworks.

RESEARCH FESTIVAL BRIEF:

I aim to create a zine for the research festival that effectively conveys my project's conceptual essence. The zine will document the creative process and include an interview with Victoria Ahrens, whose ideas intersect significantly with my research.
